With the increased demand from an esthetic conscious public, the connective tissue graft for root coverage and ridge augmentation has 
become a widely used procedure in the enhancement of periodontal esthetics. To save chairside time and to make the harvesting of palatal connective tissue easier and of uniform thickness, the double bladed handle was developed. But with the wide variation of palatal vault anatomy, the need arose for a more adjustable, offset, double blade handle. To meet the need, Dr. Leon Chen has designed an instrument with an adjustable offset double blade handle for those patients with a high palatal vault.
The new Chen adjustable double blade handle allows the surgeon access to either the right or left palatal area by adjusting a knob that moves one of the blades forward or backward to conform to the degree of variations of the palatal vault. This instument also has an adjustable component which converts the double blade to a single blade handle after the palatal incision has been made. This instrument is precise, simple to use, easy to sterilize, and to load with sharp blades. Most of all, it is cost effective because it eliminates the need for different blade handles for the left and right side of the palate.
